The Gospel of Saint Mark Gives Fresh Hope to the Believers

                       25th April, 2019

It is another celebration of the feast of St Mark, the evangelist. There is no historico-biblical evidence that he ever saw the Lord Jesus face to face. He came in contact with the Christian message through the obedience of St Peter to the missionary injunction in Mk 16:15-20 where the Lord commanded the eleven apostles after his resurrection to go and preach the Good News to all creation. St Mark is addressed in 1Pt 5:5ff by St Peter as "my son."
One amazing thing about his life is that despite not seeing Jesus face to face, he was the first to give us a written record of the Christ-memory. His gospel record, though brief, serves as an outline to be followed and developed by other evangelists. The central message of the gospel is to give fresh hope to believers who were scandalized by the passion and death of Christ as well as their own suffering. It is clear from his gospel account that the Cross remains at the centre of the Christian message as a bridge that links us with Christ.
History has it that he preached and founded the church in Alexandria. He defended the faith that he preached and he challenges us even today to bear sufferings patiently and preach the message confidently even when the whole world aims at suppressing it.
God loves you! God bless you!
